Weekly Volunteer Opportunities


ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION is needing volunteers to answer the phone and handle request for materials and information about support groups and services.   Also, volunteers are greatly needed to answer the Helpline.   Formal training is provided to all volunteers.


REYNOLDS CANCER SUPPORT is in need of volunteers to help with the following tasks:

* Greet and Register a new patient.
* Cheer someone with a personal phone call.
* Help someone find a wig, hat or turban.  
* Show visitors around the House.
* Check books in and out of the Library.
* Wash, dry and fold table linens.
* Organize, file, answer the phones and input   data.


FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH ADULT DAY CARE CENTER   is needing a piano player to provide 30 minutes of sing-a-long any afternoon any weekday between 2 and 4 pm.   Checker or Domino players are also needed any morning between 9:30 am and noon.


VAN BUREN STATION MASTER POSTION
Located in the Depot.  
Position Title: Van Buren Station Master

Responsibilities and Tasks of the Position:  
Greet visitors that come into the center. Answer question regarding the River Valley Museum as needed. Answer the visitor’s center telephone. Answer general questions regarding VanBuren. Water the outside flowers when needed. Restock the brochure rack when needed. Put out paper products in the restroom as needed. Take out the trash as needed.  

The Station Masters can work with another volunteer until they feel comfortable working on their own. This gives them on the job training to become familiar with his or her duties. The Station Masters are supervised by the Director and the Director’s Assistant.

Time Commitment:   Volunteers are needed for Monday through Saturday.   We have two shifts daily one from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. We ask that our volunteers try to work at least two (2) four-hour shifts during the month, more if possible.

Qualifications Needed:   Station Masters must be able to deal with and greet the public in a friendly manner.

Benefits for Volunteering:   Volunteers are invited to attend our monthly dinner meeting each month.   We provide a meal in appreciation for the work our volunteers do for us.

FORT SMITH ART CENTER NEEDS -  
GIFT GALLERY VOLUNTEERS
The Gift Gallery is an important source of income for the Art Center. Selling the work of over 100 local and regional artists and artisans, it brings a constant flow of new works to be checked in and displayed. Like any retail establishment, the Gift Gallery also needs to be freshened and re-arranged frequently. One or two regular volunteers assist the staff in creating attractive displays, helping with the inventory process, making sales, and freshening. These volunteer positions can be scheduled regularly or flexibly within the Art Center’s open hours (Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Time commitment:  
2 to 3 hours, twice a month.

FORT SMITH ART CENTER NEEDS -  
VAUGHN-SCHAAP HOUSE CAREGIVERS
The circa 1870s Vaughn-Schaap House, one of few remaining examples of Victorian Second Empire architecture, has been home to the Fort Smith Art Center since the early 1960s. The home needs lots of tender loving care these days. Small handyman jobs are always coming up, such as applying weather stripping, changing light bulbs, and installing track lighting. This volunteer position can be scheduled regularly or flexibly, within the Art Center’s open hours (Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Time commitment: a few hours, morning or afternoon, weekly, semi-weekly or monthly.  

FORT SMITH ART CENTER NEEDS -
EXHIBIT CREW VOLUNTEERS assist the exhibit curator in hanging artworks. Requirements: a good eye, and/or basic hammering skills. The process is more intense for special situations such as the River Valley Student Art Competition, with literally hundreds of works to be processed and hung during the last two weeks of March. Time commitment: just a few hours, once a month or every few months. To be scheduled in advance with the Program Director.

FORT SMITH ART CENTER NEEDS -  
BOEHM BUDDIES are very special volunteers: calm, courageous and coordinated, they carefully handle and dust our extensive collection of finely detailed Boehm Porcelain objects. They take their time, and nobody sneaks up behind them. This position can be scheduled regularly or flexibly during the Art Center’s open hours (Tuesday through Saturday, 9:30 to 4:30 p.m.) Time commitment: 2 or 3 hours, once or twice a month.  



SUMMIT MEDICAL CENTER AUXILIARY  Volunteers are used at the hospital to man the lobby information desk and the surgery waiting room, to volunteer to perform chores like filing, assisting in the kitchen, helping with special events, and running the gift shop. 


FIRST TEE OF FORT SMITH VOLUNTEERS OPPORTUNITIES
Administrative Asst. - Database input, grant research, answer telephone, check in participants for programming, promote and explain program to public.

Learning Center/Proshop Clerk- Check in golfers, accept payment, promote and explain program to parents and public, must have good communication skills and manners.

Golf Course Marshal - Monitor pace of play, keep water coolers full and ensure The First Tee etiquette and rules set forth by our programming is practiced by all that play at the Jack Stephens Youth Golf Academy.

Course Maintenance- Assist the course superintendent with course maintenance, range duty, etc.

Teaching Assistants- Help with instruction of golf skills and life skills lessons. Assist with setting up clinics and programming. Training Sessions will be given by Pro, and is required.

FORT SMITH TROLLEY MUSEUM  Volunteers are needed in numerous areas.  They will train anyone who needs training so all you need is the desire.

1.  Streetcar operators to run the car.  Operators usually work 1/2 day a week and some are on the extra board to be called as needed.
2.  They need plumbing and electrical work on the buildings and equipment.
3.  Someone to edit the news letter, The Trolley Report, would be appreciated.
4.  Several flower beds need attention and gardening help is always needed.
