45,000 Adults in Benton County are functionally illiterate!

Imagine not being able to read your prescription medicine label.  What would it be like if you couldn’t read street signs?  How is someone going to find a job if filling out an application is impossible?  Did you know 75% of adults in the U.S. penitentiaries are functionally illiterate?  And, 85% of youth gang members are illiterate. 

Literacy Council of Benton County is working hard to solve these problems, and we need your help!  Literacy Council of Benton County will train you to be a certified volunteer English as Second Language Tutor or Adult Basic Language tutor.  Only English is spoken in class; you do not need to know a second language to tutor, nor do you need a college degree.  The training sessions are relaxed and fun; in nine hours (4.5 hours of courses done on-line in your home and 4.5 hours in a group with our Certified Tutor Trainer) you will have the tools and materials necessary to give an adult the gift of literacy. 

Our tutors and students meet in our offices at 205 NW A Street in Bentonville, the Bentonville or Rogers libraries, and our NEW space at the Center for Non-Profits in Rogers.
